Avery is located sixteen miles southeast of Clarksville on U. S. Hwy 82 in Red River County, Texas. Named both Douglas and Issac in 1881, it was changed to Avery in 1902 in honor of Ed Avery, the first railway agent.

Avery was known as "The Tomato Center of Northeast Texas" from 1924 to 1973 due to the huge shipments of home grown tomatoes sent to the northern markets by rail car. The highlight of our calendar is the Historic "Tomato Festival" held in July of each year which provides wholesome fun for the entire family.

Our community provides the conviences of the city with a country atmosphere. We have a lake that has been stocked for good fishing at the City Park, an outdoor pavilion, playground and a tornadoshelter/community center for special events. We even have a state of the art helicopter pad if you want to fly in.  You will find down home hospitality and the friendliest people at your sevice whether passing through or staying for a spell.
